Gardens By The Bay Singapore Part III

29.12.2011

Gardens By The Bay [Bay South] – Located behind Marina Bay Sands, this is a 54-hectares garden with a sight to behold! Spanning hectares, it contains plants from all around the world, either located at one of the themed gardens, inside the  Cloud Forest or Flower Dome conservatories, or planted onto one of the 18 Supertrees! From baobabs found in the Mediterranean region to Singapore’s very own national flower, it can all be found at Gardens By The Bay, right inside the city!

The description below is similar to what has been said during the first part of this series. Click here to view Gardens By The Bay Part I and here to view Gardens By The Bay Part II. If you’ve viewed before, you can scroll down to view the pictures.

The Flower Dome consist of olive trees, palms and baobabs, among other plants, that thrive in the Mediterranean climate! With the temperature-controlled cool environment inside this conservatory, it allows these plants to be seen in Singapore.

The Heritage Gardens, which celebrates the unique Singapore identity, showcases plants that play a role in Singapore’s three main ethnic groups, as well as the colonial heritage. They form up the Chinese [Not to be confused with the Chinese Garden in Jurong haha], Malay, Indian and Colonial Gardens that will be showcased in this post.

The Dragonfly Lake seems to be not completed yet, and I think there will be fishes in the lake when the Gardens officially open next June. There are two man-made islands within the lake, the Nibong and Dragonfly Islands. The Dragonfly Bridge that spans across the lake connects the Garden Bay Bridge that links from Marina Bay Sands to the Gardens By The Bay.

The Golden Garden & Silver Garden contains 3 towering Supertrees each. Each Supertree is clad in stunning flowering climbers, with a gold and silver-theme respectively.

When the Gardens officially open in June 2012, there will be more additions such as the Cloud ForestSupertree Grove that contains 12 Supertrees, The World of PlantsTadpole Play GardenThe MeadowWater Lily PondKingfisher Lake, as well as dining choices, such as the famous Satay By The Bay. The tallest Supertree will also house a dining outlet at the TOP!!

In this last part of the series, 28 awesome shots of the 2 conservatories as well as The Canopy that provides a shelter between the 2 conservatories can be seen below. One of them is the Flower Dome while the other is the Cloud Forest. Only the Flower Dome was open for preview. However, one shot below was taken outside the glass structure of the Cloud Forest that provide a glimpse of what it is all about. The Cloud forest is divided into 11 main areas. A pre-show like area leads you from the entrance at the Upper Level to the 9 sections along a slope that houses different kind of plants, namely the Succulent Garden, The Baobabs, Australian Garden, South African Garden, South American Garden, Mediterranean Garden, Olive Grove, California Garden and Flower Field. An interactive section leads visitors to the exit at the Lower Level. There is a store unit that should house a shop or food store in future when the Gardens officially opens as well.

Click here to view Gardens By The Bay Part I if you haven’t done so to take a glimpse of the Heritage Gardens, as well as the Site Plan. After that, do visit Gardens By The Bay Part II here for a preview of the Supertrees!

I would like to say a Big Thank You for all the support all of you have given to this series. And hopefully the 70 photos uploaded through the 3 parts have provided a preview for Gardens By The Bay.

Do leave your comments at the end of the post :D Happy Viewing!

25.12.2011

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

Its 25th of December once again, and as the year draws to a close, lets celebrate during this festive season.

After 1.5months of posting on Christmas Decorations in Singapore since the launch on 11.11.11 [Click here to view all of them if you have not done so], here are my picks, as well as the judges picks, on the best christmas decorations in Singapore for the year 2011.

MY PICKS

3RD: TANGS

The stunning gold-themed decorations stand out brightly at the start of Orchard Road. At the store entrance, the golden trees towering above you makes you feel trapped inside a magical garden. Splendid. Click here to see the photos.

2ND: Orchard Central

The tree outside is nice, but may just be an average tree that stands out with its pink-themed. However, I totally like its Christmas Market with the European Feel to it, making you feel that you are really in one of the many Christmas Markets in Europe! Perfect for Christmas. Click here to see the extensive post of Christmas at Orchard Central.

1ST: Jurong Point

Garfield-themed, the decorations are all around the mall! Loving the disco balls that hang around the atriums, reflecting light from the sun during the day, and from the spotlights at night, brightening the entire mall up. Not forgetting the numberous Garfield and Friends displays around the mall. Great! Click here for photos of Jurong Point’s Christmas.

JUDGES PICKS

Here are the results for the Best Dressed Building Competition 2011. Do note that only malls along Orchard Road took part in this competition.

WINNER: TANGS

The stunning gold-themed decorations stand out brightly at the start of Orchard Road. At the store entrance, the golden trees towering above you makes you feel trapped inside a magical garden. Splendid. Click here to see the photos.

WINNER: Tanglin Mall

The usual snowfall, and a traditional Christmas feel to the entire place is a great place for many. Christmas music in the background allows everyone to be soaked in the festive atmosphere! Click here to see the photos.

WINNER: Ion Orchard

Christmas Trees are everywhere, but this one is special with an Observation Deck at the TOP of the Christmas Tree! Brilliant! Click here to see the photos.

OVERALL WINNER: Orchard Central

The tree outside is nice, but may just be an average tree that stands out with its pink-themed. However, I totally like its Christmas Market with the European Feel to it, making you feel that you are really in one of the many Christmas Markets in Europe! Read that it won big for the use of Pink Dolphin Bottles for its Christmas Tree! Perfect for Christmas, and a worthy winner. Click here to see the extensive post of Christmas at Orchard Central.

The Ferrero Rocher tree that appears annually along Orchard Road.

This post also marks the end of the extensive CHRISTMAS 2011 @ mywords that started on 11.11.11. Thanks for all your support [F.Y.I. Readership numbers have been absolutely record breaking!]. There will not be such extensive coverage for Chinese New Year as it is quite near Christmas and I think not many malls will decorate for it. But still, I will post some pictures up. Rest well and get ready for Boxing Day shopping tomorrow! Perhaps you can go out now and experience the Yuletide mood!

Till next time. Merry Christmas once again.

Universal Studios Singapore (USS) has been through a really exciting year. From the RE-opening of Battlestar Galactica Duelling Coasters in Feb, to the opening of Madagascar: A Crate Adventure in May, to its Grand Opening on 28 May 2011, to the world-premiere of Transformers: The Ride, it has been a wonderful 2011 for USS. And to TOP it off, the new Hollywood Dreams Parade will debut on 31st Dec 2011!

Celebrating another great year for USS. Toasts up for its Christmas deco :) Simple and wonderful.

Smile.

A Sparkling Wonderland

Christmas in the Tropics along Orchard Road once again as the year comes to a close!

Themed “Christmas Blooms in Singapore”, Orchard Road is transformed into a fairy wonderland with scintillating lights! Flowers composed of five hearts bound together by a star adorns the streets, turning Orchard Road into a garden shining blue and white. Its the season to be jolly! :D

Merry Christmas everyone.

Tanglin Mall, along Orchard Road. Like an annual tradition, there is always ‘snow’ falling onto Tanglin Mall’s shores.

With a european touch, Tanglin Mall emits a aura of Switzerland, etc. Try the macarons at Brunetti. $2 each. They are delicious!

Photos below. ENJOY =)
